For infants, Dr. Strutz will take your child to another room. Your child will be gently swaddled and a specialty formulated numbing gel will be applied and a very small amount of local anesthetic given to the treatment area. Glasses will be placed over your child's eyes, as well as everyone else's who is in the room, to protect them from the laser. The actual procedure generally takes 3-5 minutes. Some fussing or crying during the procedure is common.
For much older infants and children, Dr. Strutz may ask that a parent hold the child. A specialty formulated numbing gel will be applied and a small amount of local anesthetic given to the treatment area. Glasses will be placed over your child's eyes, as well as everyone else's who is in the room, to protect them from the laser. The procedure time is still generally 3-5 minutes. Some fussing or crying during the procedure is common.
Parents are asked to wait in another room while the treatment is being done. Your infant will pick up your anxiety and emotions and thus your child may become more stressed when you are present. A parent holding a much older infant or child will be requested to be in the treatment room during the procedure.
We are pleased to use a laser, as this means minimal (if any) bleeding and more immediate healing.
