While we LOVE our babies, we see Adults as well!
At the office of Dr. Judy Strutz, we recognize the special bond that is created between a mother and child when the breastfeeding relationship is successful. Providing laser surgery to correct lip and tongue ties, the all female team at Happy Baby Laser are here to help.
In some infants and children, the tissue that connects to the lip or tongue is too tight, restricting the correct movement that is needed for breastfeeding. This excessively tight tissue may also cause other challenges as your child grows. Challenges such as dental decay, malformation of bones, sleep apnea, speech difficulties, gaps between the teeth, and digestive problems may occur. Frenotomy or frenectomy surgery is a procedure that corrects this congenital condition.
Common Symptoms include:
Difficulty latching on or falling or popping off the breast easily.
Gumming, biting or chewing the nipple while nursing.
Gassy babies (babies with ties often swallow a lot of air as they cannot maintain proper suction).
Poor weight gain.
Excessive drooling.
Baby is not able to fully drain the breast.
Choking on milk or popping off to gasp for air while nursing.
Falling asleep during feedings, then waking a short while later to nurse again.
Sleep deprivation (due to the need for frequent feedings).
Extended nursing episodes that are 'marathon nursing' sessions.
